Weaponsmiths
I noticed this today when I went to go craft myself a max damage scythe as I was in desperate need for one. I looked at the price...and dropped my jaw. 5k for a weapon with a crap skin, plus the cost of materials, and no mods save for inscribable??? What dreamland is A-Net living in.
Here's what max dmg clean (clean=no mods for those that don't know) weapons come out. Without a rare skin, it costs about 500 gold - 1k to buy one with a low requirement. If you are lucky you can sell a max dmg chaos axe with a low req clean for about 2k, but even that takes time.
So please change that, because it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I had to borrow The Deathbringer from a guildie till I could find my own scythe. And yeah, my guild is cool like that
So please, lower the price or add in some mods. Either or works fine for me.

If you can get one for 500g instead of crafting it for 5k, then do that. Why bother complaining? You could've spent that time finding weapons xD

Well you must have went to the wrong weaponcrafter. The one I went to to get a max damage scythe, the one in marga coast, give weapons with 15^50. You jsut need to find the right weaponcrafter that gives the right mods.

The price is deliberately high to encourage loot acquisition and player trade.
If everything were 100g and 5 iron ingots, nobody would bother looking for looted items.

no he's right. weapon crafter are totally useless. Crappy skin, no mod, white, 5k.
they should ether remove them from the game or drop the price a bit.

You're not forced to buy from the weapon crafters. If you have a problem with the price, don't buy from them.

Its not the price per say that is being complained about, but what you get for that price. Which is ridiculous.

Why?
There's nothing wrong with it. You get a perfect intristic mod/inscription on a moddable weapon. Buying a random weapon will also cost you the inscription (3k for 15^50) and time to purchase both.
Keep in mind, this is always available in unlimited supply at any time. Now consider also, that exact same weapons are available from collectors. Items purchased from players aren't.
Going from standard money earning estimates of 5-10k per hour, can you get collector's items in under an hour, including walking to the collectors and all that?
Something might be perceived as invaluable by players, but fortunately, these weaponsmiths aren't affected by supply and demand.
How long does it take you to buy a 15^50, req. 9 weapon of your choice? If I say "now", how long, till you have this weapon in your possession? Weapon might be anything, bow, scythe, sword, ....
The price is ok. And if you're complaining about skin, you shouldn't be complaining about 5k. Beggars can't be choosers.

Lower price makes the weaponsmith more useful. Up till now I've not bothered with that NPC just as Not A Fifty Five has mentioned.

Your comparing Anets set NPC price to a fluctuating market price!
Thats not very realistic.
You cant say 5k from the weaponsmith is too expensive, just because the skin is cheap, the mod is cheap, or the req is cheap on the open market.
The NPC doesnt know that, and within a couple of weeks, the price of those could chance.
You cant programme an NPC to take into concideration the fluctuating price of a skin, mod or req.
Their not traders, they dont buy items and sell them on. Their not effected by market prices. Their purely crafters who make set items at set prices.
Again, this is one of the few gold sinks we have in GWs. Something we need more of.
But considering your asking the weaponsmith to make you a max dmg weapon (assuming your in a high end area) with a low req, which you can later modify and improve, why are you complaining if it costs 5k?
The weapon could tripple in price with the right mods.
But you only get clean, un-moded weapons from a weaponsmith because they dont make moded weapons. Which logically makes sense because a weaponsmith only makes the base weapon.
If you want a decent moded weapon you use a collector. Plus its probably cheaper.

i cant really remember a time i had to resort to crafting a weapon from the 5k crafter. usually i get enough items to get a collectors weapon of the same stats. oh except once.....i badly wanted a katana skin sword.....so i did craft one......and it was worth the 5k

but i think they should be salvagable. This way if you put a mod on it you can get it back later.

anet will never, ever change this.
They are bad skins to encourage trade of rare skins. There would be no market on anything.
They aren't white items, are you blind?
They're blue, and you can make them come with any base damage mods that you want, ANY. 15^50, 15 enchant, 15 stance, you name it, it can be obtained.
You're just looking for the cheap way out cause you're too poor to afford anything good.
Why should you get a perfect gold with an ultra rare skin for 5k when we had to pay 200k+

The Crafters are fine, ive used them myself when i needed an inscribable weapon for a build.
The cost is appropriate, fair and the mods are varried enough.
Add to that you could just find a collector with the mods you want and save the 5k, there not meant to be your only option. The crafter is there as a last resort if you need a weapon with a certain mod, ie 15% enchanted/stance/^50/-10armor/-5energy.
The WeaponCrafter is a practical alternative to trading with players, nothing more.
